Bishops Waltham Removals

A oil painting was damaged in the move and although I had taken out insurance, bishops Waltham Removers refused to acknowledge my claim because I notified them of the damage a couple of days after 7 days after the move. This was in the contract - clause 12 of 24 of their terms and conditions. I paid £59 insurance in good faith but they refused to honour my claim.
I have now taken them to Court.
I don't think they have behaved fairly in this matter so I would not use them. Think carefully before you do.

We've used a number of moving companies over the years – for five UK moves and three internationals. Although Bishops Waltham Removals staff were friendly and seemed to work hard, it’s the first time that we experienced so many damaged items including our new sofa arriving dirty and embedded with wood splinters – as if it had been dragged uncovered across the removal truck floor. No house move or removal company can be perfect, but it was a catalogue of disasters causing damage to so many items; some which are inherited family antiques with considerable sentimental and monetary value.

Beyond the many damaged items caused by Bishops Waltham Removals we experienced so much stress during the move and thereafter trying to resolve our insurance claim. All of this occurred despite the assurances we received from the Sales Representative, Barry Bedford, that we would be looked after by the professional removal team and that he would be present on the day of removals to ensure that everything would go smoothly and that our antiques would be looked after. He never appeared for the two days of packing, nor did he even have the courtesy to call to let us know that he was too busy. In the end, save for one time, he would not take any of our calls or respond to our emails to answer our genuine complaints.

We chose Bishops Waltham Removals because we wanted to support a local company and not some large national company. But BEWARE, as we do not want others to go through what we did. Employ them at your own risk and do so if you want lots of stress, to be treated poorly and spend lots of money to have many of your possessions damaged. Given our dreadful and upsetting experience with Bishops Waltham Removals, and our financial loss of close to £500, we would never ever consider using them again.

Rick and Alfie took care of my mother in law's removal and were absolute stars throughout the whole, very difficult day. They were kind and sensitive both to the woman herself and also with her possessions. We were held up by some two hours as monies had stalled in her purchase and, as we sat waiting for the cash to clear, Rick kept her spirits up and was patience personified. What should have been a half day removal took until 6 in the evening and yet they never complained and somehow remained cheerful the entire time. Hats off, guys.
